The Latin term figura has a polysemic nature, changing in meaning over the
centuries depending on its context of use. This article aims to clarify its most significant aspects with regard to the Christian theory of representation. The focus is on the radical shift in the concept of the image and the dynamics or devices of representation and vision as a result of Christian thinking.
