Abstract

The Latin term figura has a polysemic nature, changing in meaning over the
centuries depending on its context of use. This article aims to clarify its most significant aspects with regard to the Christian theory of representation. The focus is on the radical shift in the concept of the image and the dynamics or devices of representation and vision as a result of Christian thinking.

    Carla Bino insegna Storia del Teatro e Storia e forme della comunicazione orale e drammaturgica presso l’Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore di Brescia. Si occupa di problemi legati alla teoria della rappresentazione e della cultura drammatica del Medioevo
    cristiano, in particolare della drammaturgia passionista. È autrice delle monografie Il dramma e l’immagine. Teorie cristiane della rappresentazione (II-XI sec) (Firenze 2015) e Dal trionfo al pianto. La fondazione del ‘teatro della misericordia’ nel Medioevo (V-XIII secolo) (Milano, 2008). È stata fondatore e direttore artistico di Crucifixus - Festival di primavera, rassegna dedicata al teatro sacro.
