Résumé

This paper aims to compare the different function that female sacrifice for love assumes in Greek tragedy and in martyrological literature. The importance attached to this comparison depends on two opposed perspectives, in which Alcestis and Passio Perpetuae et Felicitatis show, each in their own way, a peculiar attitude about life and human suffering for the dead, but also the concrete evidence of a profoundly different love paradigm. In a certain way, agape overcomes eros and this process involves the raising of a new kind of drama, which we will refer to as ‘performance’ in early Christianity.
