This essay analyses, through the theoretical and critical lens of Performance Studies, comics as a medium capable of articulating a co-belonging relationship between the iconic and verbal domains and as a non-derivative literary fact that fully belongs to literature proper. In addition, it examines Corto Maltese’s comics, in which Hugo Pratt deploys narrative techniques common to modern and postmodern literature.
