Le ‘architetture’ della Pace nella riflessione di Giorgio La Pira

Abstract

This essay aims to reconstruct the socio-philosophical thought of Giorgio La Pira by analysing the concept of peace as the foundational pillar of his moral, social, and political ‘architectures’. Grounded in the premise that peace is not merely the absence of war, but rather a complex construct rooted in justice, fraternity among peoples, and the promotion of human rights, this study demonstrates how law and politics, in La Pira’s vision, serve as ordering instruments of society, capable of transforming chaos into a harmonious and equitable system. Throughout his life, La Pira tirelessly endeavored to build a permanent peace, which he regarded as an essential prerequisite forthe millennial flourishing of civilization. His personalist approach – the contemporary relevance of which will be underscored – represents a hidden treasure to be rediscovered, particularly regarding peace and ethical responsibility in forging a path that leads humanity toward the recovery of the common good. The essay concludes by proposing La Pira’s thought as a poignant reminder that peace must not be the byproduct of an improvised architecture, but rather the genuine fruit of communion, sharing, dialogue, and fraternity.
