Un’avventura pedagogica dalla Londra vittoriana all’Italia postunitaria: il modello scolastico di Giuseppe Mazzini (1841-1889)

Il saggio intende illustrare il modello pedagogico mazziniano, sviluppato grazie alla Scuola Italiana di Londra fondata da Mazzini nel 1841, e poi diffusosi nella penisola dopo la proclamazione del Regno d’Italia. Ad una prima parte dedicata alla Scuola londinese, segue l’analisi del piccolo ma significativo campione costituito dalla “Scuola serale e festiva per adulti” di Lajatico e della “Scuola Mazzini” di Carrara, in Toscana. La prima prese vita in una realtà agricola tra le più povere della campagna toscana, la seconda in una città caratterizzata dall’atipica industria del marmo. Ciò dimostra la capacità di adattamento e penetrazione delle strutture associative mazziniane nella variegata realtà politica ed economica dell’Italia postunitaria.
The essay aims to illustrate Mazzini’s pedagogical model, developed thanks to the Italian School founded in London by the republican patriot in 1841, and its spreading in Italy after the proclamation of the Kingdom in 1861. The first part, dedicated to the Italian School in London, is followed by the analysis of the small but significant sample of the "Evening school for adults" of Lajatico and the "Mazzini’s School" of Carrara, both in Tuscany. Lajatico was maybe the poorest village of the Tuscany countryside, while Carrara a city characterized by the atypical marble industry. The two experiences demonstrate both the capacities of adaptation and penetration of Mazzini’s associations in the different political and economic reality of the Kingdom of Italy.
