Tra mito e soglia: Tolkien e Gaiman a confronto
Abstract
L’articolo mette a confronto J.R.R. Tolkien e Neil Gaiman, focalizzandosi sulla riscrittura del mito e la centralità della soglia come via di accesso al fantastico. Se Tolkien costruisce un universo coerente e verticale, radicato in lingue, genealogie e cosmogonie, Gaiman lavora in chiave postmoderna e rizomatica, intrecciando mito, folklore e cultura pop in mondi liminali che confinano con il reale. Per entrambi però il mito è uno strumento per leggere il presente.

This article compares J.R.R. Tolkien and Neil Gaiman, focusing on the rewriting of myth and the centrality of the threshold as a gateway to the fantastic. While Tolkien builds a coherent and vertical universe, rooted in languages, genealogies, and cosmogonies, Gaiman works in a postmodern, rhizomatic key, weaving together myth, folklore, and pop culture in liminal worlds that border on the real. For both, however, myth is a tool to interpret the present.
