Abstract

The figure of S. Giovanni Bosco (1815-1888) is to be rightly included among those intellectuals, educational theorists and men of faith who made Italian Risorgimento a period of extraordinary importance for Italian pedagogical history. His educational model, therefore, has to be reread not only within that historical frame, but, moreover, in its astonishing actuality. In the time of nihilism and transmutation of values, what is the role to assign to the method that combine work and prayer, professional training and character formation? The answer is entirely contained in Karol Wojtyla’s Juvenum Patris.
