Abstract

The paper aims at illustrating the core of John Dewey’s thought within the wider context of Pragmatism. At the centre of Dewey’s reflection there is the theory of experience, according to which every human being reacts to the environment: he adapts the environment to himself modifying it and adapts himself to the environment modifying himself, through a sequence of choices, selections, analyses, organizations of both the messages that he receives and the responses he plans and acts. Therefore, the nature of experience can be meant only observing the particular combination of active and passive elements which it includes.
