Abstract

This paper examines the transformation of the contemporary linguistic experience produced by the digital revolution, highlighting its deep political implications and tracing a genealogy of this transformation, beginning with Viète’s algebraic turn and Leibniz’s project of the ars combinatoria. The article shows how the progressive reduction of language to pure calculation and symbolic operability corresponds to a messianic ideal of universal pacification, which can be defined as Pax calculatoria. This model aims to neutralise conflict, as well as the semantic dimension of speech, leading to depoliticisation. Against this totalising trend, the essay proposes the alternative paradigm of translation. Translation emerges as the only space capable of preserving the very possibility of politics and of a peace oriented towards justice.
