La figura del maestro appare storicamente caratterizzata da una costante dipendenza rispetto alla “committenza”, privata o pubblica. Tale condizione si precisa giuridicamente quando viene istituzionalizzata, inquadrata cioè nell’apparato amministrativo degli Stati nazionali. Il contributo ricostruisce il rapporto fra maestri e autorità nel primo secolo di vita della Scuola italiana, soffermandosi su alcuni momenti emblematici. In questo arco di tempo, sono stati introdotti i principali strumenti di controllo sulla classe magistrale e questa ha tentato, attraverso varie lotte, di conquistare alcune forme di tutela.
The historical figure of the elementary school teacher is constantly subject to his patron, either private or public. This condition was turned into an institution and framed in the bureaucratic system of nation states. The paper reconstructs the relationship between teachers and authorities in the first century of Italian public school, with a focus on some relevant cases. During this period of time teachers were subject to a strict form of control and they fought for protection in many different ways.
