AND YET WE DIE.
Starting from the hypothesis that the social effervescence around the environmental emergency is, today, closer to chatter, to a covering escapism, to that escape whose function, according to Heidegger (1976), would be to distract us from what is stirring in the deepest nocturnal currents of the social imaginary, we will try to link the theme of the environmental apocalypse to the material principle common to every living being: the body. Compared to its possibilities of transformation and existence today, the human body remains the most concrete limit to the attainment of any possible utopian place (Plessner, 1975). With reference to the recent cinematographic works of Valdimar Jóhannsson (Lamb, 2021), Ruben Östlund (Triangle of sadness, 2022) and David Cronenberg (Crimes of the Future, 2022), we will try to show how artistic production is able to anticipate all the transformations of the body, the evolution of its images in relation to its nature, offering us an ever-new vision of the precipice that awaits us all and indistinctly: the end of the body.
