Abstract

Science occupies an important and unique role in the criminal justice system and the geochemistry has an important role in investigating cases attributable to crimes against the environment. In this paper, the authors proposed a forensic-based learning methodology in teaching geochemistry using the fluorine compounds and their chemical, mineralogical and geochemical properties. With the assignment of a hypothetical, although realistically, issue, students will develop communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, collaboration, and self-directed learning skills based on recommended topics. Proposals for assessments and learning objectives are discussed in the present paper.
