The article investigates performance as a privileged site for the emergence of atmospheres of the imaginary, proposing an integrated methodology that brings together aesthetic philosophy, cognitive science, and acting technique. In dialogue with Tonino Griffero, Gernot Böhme, and Hermann Schmitz, atmosphere is understood as a pre-individual, spatially diffused, and corporeally perceived field, capable of orienting both action and perception beyond the subject/object dichotomy. The stage thus emerges as a sensitive dispositif and experiential space. Within this framework, Mikhail Chekhov’s psychophysical acting is reconsidered through the lens of Gabriele Sofia’s neurophenomenological studies, highlighting the role of embodied imagination and environmental relation. In line with Georg Simmel, the stage becomes a performative landscape in which actors and spectators co-construct shared atmospheres. The cases of Stromboli and Gombola show how environmental atmospheres redefine the actor/spectator dynamic.
