L’alfierismo del Carducci giovane

Abstract

L’autore, che da decenni dedica studi e pubblicazioni sia ad Alfieri che a Carducci, ripercorre il cammino del Carducci principiante dal 1857, anno delle Rime di San Miniato, al 1862, anno nel quale al poeta toscano si apre la via di quella poesia ribellistica e protestataria comunemente conosciuta come giambica, riconoscendo come dominante in questi anni giovanili carducciani la presenza di Alfieri. In Alfieri Carducci, da poeta risorgimentale, vide il precursore e profeta della terza Italia, e il sublime vate di libertà. Ma la lezione alfieriana non si è certo limitata per Carducci al campo delle idee, giacché il poeta astigiano è stato da lui assunto, in quel suo periodo di tirocinio poetico ma non solo, come modello di lingua e di stile: quel modello di poesia fortemente rilevata sulla prosa e impossibile a confondersi con essa che il giovane Giosue andava cercando. S. conclude che l’alfierismo carducciano rappresenta un capitolo fondamentale di quello che si può a buon diritto chiamare l’Ottocento alfieriano. 

The author, who over the last few decades has published a vast number of essays and books on both Alfieri and Carducci, outlines the development of Carducci’s work from his early beginning in 1857, the year of his Rime di San Miniato, to 1862, the year when the Tuscan poet started producing the rebel, protest poetry commonly known as jambic poetry, and emphasizes the dominant presence of Alfieri in the early years of Carducci’s work. As a poet of the Italian Risorgimento, Carducci saw Alfieri as a forerunner and prophet of the ‘Third Italy’, and as the sublime poet who celebrated freedom. Nevertheless, as Sterpos claims, during Carducci’s poetic apprenticeship, but not only at that time, Alfieri’s lesson for Carducci was certainly not confined to the field of ideals; the poet from Asti was actually also a golden model for his language and style: precisely that model of poetry that stood well above the prosaic and was impossible to confuse with it that the young Giosue Carducci was searching for. Sterpos concludes that Carducci’s Alfierism is a fundamental chapter in what can quite rightly be called ‘l’Ottocento alfieriano’, namely the 19th century of Vittorio Alfieri.
