In the recent years the entropic version of the lattice Boltzmann method (ELBM) has made proof of significantly enhanced numerical stability due to its compliance with the Boltzmann H-theorem.
The comparison with the standard single-time relaxation form of the lattice Boltzmann equation and with a more empirical procedure, shows that ELBM offers higher stability at a moderate price in terms of computational overhead. The benchmark simulation of the two-dimensional lid-driven cavity flow, we used in this work, shows a good agreement with the standard single-time relaxation form of the lattice Boltzmann equation and with literature data.
